  4. Richard Dawood Says:

    Why do you think people hate using hand dryers?

    The No. 1 dislike of hand dryers would be the drying time, the average hand dryer takes anywhere from 30 to 45 seconds to effectively dry a user’s hands. There are new models and designs of hand dryers that cut the drying time between 10 and 15 seconds such as the ozwashroom XL228 and that would be achieved by increasing power and concentration of air flow.
    Decreasing drying time is one of the major challenges for hand dryer designers, but it has to be balanced with other factors such as noise. It is widely acknowledged by the industry that decreased drying times usually mean louder machines.

    Hand dryers also work very well in tandem with paper towel dispensers, it works best for end users if both options are available to customers, that way, even if paper towels run out, the customer knows that the hand dryer will still be working.

    In 1998 a study sponsored by a major paper towel manufacturer put forth evidence that older hand dryers are likely to spread bacteria if not properly maintained. The key to any industry study is to know who is putting the money into that study, several independent studies have come out recently which show that hand dryers are just as sanitary, if not more sanitary than paper towels. The key to being sanitary is good design when it comes to hand dryer, if the air that’s being passed through hand dryers is hot enough, then bacteria can’t survive.

    The acceptance of hand dryers is generational, older generations felt more comfortable using paper towels, a new generation of hand-dryer users is now appreciate the hand dryers rather than resisting them. The kids who grew up with hand dryers at McDonald’s, movie theatres and schools are now graduating from Universities and are part of the work force and they’re very familiar with the ease of using hand dryers. The previous generation has always used paper towels and they think that paper towels allow them to get in and out of the restroom quickly.

    As hand dryers continue to gain acceptance, because they are healthier, more economical and most importantly, environmentally friendly option compared to any other drying method including paper towels and Manchester’s. More markets are opening up for hand dryer use. Schools and educational facilities have especially taken to hand dryers in recent years due to the decrease in opportunities for vandalism.

    • Richard Deeks Says:

      The big problem with hand dryers is hygiene. Not the hand dryer but having to touch public toilet door handles. This is where the paper towel cannot be beat. Dry your hands, open door with paper towel and throw in bin on way out. A no touch exit :0)

    Soap Dispensers, The way to go
    By Richard Dawood

    Soap dispensers are necessary to maintain hygiene and prevent contamination and spread of germs. We in Ozwashroom have noticed that since the epidemic of swine flu, the demand for soap dispensers have more than tripled especially for schools.

    Apart from encouraging hygienic practices, attractive soap refillable dispensers are convenient, economical and add style to washrooms. Soap dispensers are generally easy to install and come in attractive designs to match all kinds of commercial restrooms.

    Soap dispensers with high holding capacity ensure that users do not run out of product. These are recommended in places with high traffic where frequent refilling and servicing is difficult or impractical.

    Soap dispensers come in stainless steel with many different shapes and styles such as the polished or satin finish or both combined. Also soap dispensers come in plastic and they are as good. The size varies between 500ml to 1500ml with different pump through. Also the automatic soap dispenser that uses the infra red sensor detection of hand movement to dispense the liquid soap, and that type would be suitable for health care facilities.

    Soap dispensers provide the healthy and cost effective alternative compared to other conventional cleaning agent.

  6. Richard Dawood Says:

    Hand dryers advantages over other drying methods or towels

    COST ADVANTAGES

    Hand dryers will, without exception, save money for the users. On average, it costs a restaurant about $38 annually to run its hand dryers, that same restaurant could spent more than $700 on paper towels.

    ENVIRONMENTAL ADVANTAGES

    By eliminating paper towels, a user can eliminate 5 – 15% of its non-recyclable waste. Companies forced through legislation to cut down on waste are seeing hand dryers as an immediate way to achieve part of their waste reduction goals.

    IMPROVED CLEANLINESS

    Dryers contribute to a cleaner and more sanitary washroom. Avoid the litter of paper towels.

    LABOR SAVINGS

    Dryers are virtually maintenance-free. Except for a yearly recommended cleaning, they don’t need to be touched.

    REDUCED VANDALISM

    Dryers eliminate the vandalism that is often present with paper towels around. Towels clog toilets and sinks, are set aflame, and are thrown wet onto walls and ceilings.

    ALWAYS ON DUTY

    Dryers are ready for action 24 hours a day.

  9. Jaz Says:

    Due to the reduction in litter and waste in comparison with paper towels, which cannot be recycled, hand dryers are also claimed to be better for the environment. One source claims that an average fast-food restaurant using paper towels, annually, results in 9 fully-grown trees being cut down, and 1,000 pounds (≈450 kilograms) of landfill waste created, though many are often unaware of these consequences.Even before the paper towels are used, each ton has claimed 20,000 gallons (≈76000 litres) of water in chemical cleansing. Another study shows that whereas the majority of the environmental impact of a hand dryer occurs during its use, the environmental impact of paper towels is predominantly in the material production and manufacturing stages.

  10. Jaz Says:

    It’s estimated that hand dryers use 5% less energy than paper towels in the first year, and 20% less over five years.

    A World Dryer study of 102 hand dryers installed in public schools in Topeka, Kansas, claimed an annual savings of 34.5 tons of solid waste, 690,000 gallons of water, and 587 trees; another World Dryer study of 153 hand dryers in the Iowa state capitol showed an annual savings of 10.5 tons of solid waste and 176 trees.
    However, a Dutch study published in March 1995 indicated that there was environmental parity between hand dryers and paper towels as hand drying methods when all factors were taken into consideration.

    A big winner on the night was the Dyson Airblade hand dryer, which took out two of the industry’s ten coveted awards with the FMA Australia & ISS ‘Product Excellence Award’ and FMA Australia & Rider Levett Bucknall ‘Industry Innovation Excellence Award’.

    The FMA Australia ‘Awards for Excellence’ marks the first time an industry awards program was held to nationally recognise the individuals and organisations that have achieved significant outcomes for the FM sector.

    A panel of leaders from the following industry and research bodies were on the judging panel for the awards:

    * South Australia University
    * Sustainability Victoria
    * National Research Centre
    * Green Building Council of Australia
    * Virgin; and Bovis Lend Lease

    “Our 700 plus research and development team are focused on engineering products that work significantly better. In the case of the Airblade hand dryer, it was about delivering to the industry a hand dryer that will work properly; drying hands quickly, hygienically and with minimal impact to the environment. So it was exciting to see Australia’s response to this commitment reflected so strongly on the night.” Mr Cameron concludes.

    Earlier this year, the Dyson Airblade hand dryer was also recognised nationally for its environmental impact. Typo gives away fake Aussie wine

    Fake bottles of Australia’s best-selling Jacob’s Creek wine have flooded the UK market, but were discovered because of a typo on the label.

    Hundreds of bottles of imitation Jacob’s Creek, which have made their way into bottle shops across the country, have already been seized.

    The wine appears identical to the real thing apart from a tell-tale misspelling of Australia on the label – and the apparently horrible taste.

    The fakes are believed to have come from China.

    Trading standards officials are warning consumers to look for the label error when buying a bottle of one of the UK’s favourite wines.
    Pernod Ricard United Kingdom, owner of Jacob’s Creek, has launched an investigation.
